Carpe Diem

"It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful to you. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power" (from Alyce)

"...to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life...to put to rout all that was not life; and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." - Henry David Thoreau

Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. This is a kind of death. - Anais Nin

"I diminish you, I diminish myself"

"You must be the change you wish to see in this world" - Gandhi

Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today. ~James Dean

Why must conversions always come so late? Why do people always apologize to corpses? ~David Brin

For of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: "It might have been!" - JG Whittier

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. - Mark Twain

"The biggest sin of all is sitting on your ass." -Florynce Kennedy

We do not do what we want and yet we are responsible for what we are - that is the fact. ~Jean Paul Sartre, Situations, 1939

Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive. - Elbert Hubbard

And now the end is near
And so I face the final curtain,
My friends, I'll say it clear,
I'll state my case of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full, I've travelled each and evr'y highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way.
- My Way

  1. "We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, "O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?" Answer: that you are here; that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?" - Dead Poets Society

I miss you! Sorry I've been bad about commenting on the blog, I have been reading though. The elephant orphanage looks amazing - I've always loved elephants, so it was extra special. My heart cracked for the baby who had part of his leg destroyed by a landmine.

I love that you have been updating a lot, but I also hope that you have been out exploring. I like the new haircut and can't wait to see you in your Nurse costume! I hope we can Skype sometime soon! Expect another letter soon-ish, I'm going to mail it out on Tuesday as Monday the post office is closed for Columbus Day.
